Houston-based improviser and artist Rebecca Novak often plays a constellation of instruments and objects (cornet, piano, glassware, radio) with an ear for fine-grained textures and mechanical or electronic sounds using acoustic instruments. She has shared her work at Project Row Houses, Museo Tamayo (Mexico City), Hirsch Library MFAH, Performance Works NW (Portland), Vermillion (Seattle), minicine? (Shreveport), Other Cinema (San Francisco), Experimental Sound Studio (Chicago), and floating down the Mississippi on a Louis Kahn-designed barge. She has performed and recorded with the free improvisation trio Garden medium with Sandy Ewen and Carol Sandin Cooley, in duos with percussionist Anders Zelinski and cassette tape/electronic musician Steve Jansen, and with Jamie Hernandez and Eris Hysinger in the all-radio trio Snowcore.
