Maurizio Argenziano ( IT )

  • electric guitar

Born in Naples, Italy in 1977, Maurizio Argenziano started playing electric guitar in 1995 at the age of 18. Initially influenced by noise and punk bands, Maurizio’s musical trajectory continued to span experimental and contemporary music genres making Maurizio deeply active in the southern Italian underground music scene centered in his hometown of Naples.

In 1998 he founded Missselfdestrrruction, an experimental-postpunk band with Massimo Spezzaferro (drums) and Rosalia Peluso (bass and voice). Their first album ("Asimmetrica", Snowdonia, 2001) alternates between song-oriented tracks and shorter freely improvised pieces. In 1998 he became a member of Silken Barb, a post-rock band ("Silken Barb", Freeland, 1998). After several short tours around Italy, both bands disbanded.

In 2003 he founded A Spirale with Massimo Spezzaferro (drums, electronics) and Mario Gabola (saxophone). The band mixed post-punk attitude, extended techniques, noise, and free improvisation. Their discography includes several albums as a trio ("Gariga", Setola Di Maiale, 2008; "Agaspastik", Fratto9 Under The Sky, 2009; "Viande", Die Schachtel, 2010) and several in collaboration with other musicians — two with Russian duo ASTMA ("Case Matte", Viande, 2012; "The Cost Of Service", Zeromoon, 2013) and one with American percussionist Chris Cogburn ("Autocannibalism", INSUB, 2019).

In 2004, he started to collaborate with Tonino Taiuti (guitar, voice, acting), performing live with him and recording several albums (self-released on CD-R) of primitivist free music, sometimes using acoustic guitars. In 2006 Maurizio started playing with Francesco Gregoretti (One Starving Day drummer) as Oddly Imploded, a free noise duo ("Choke all your habits...", Tape Drift, 2011; "They just sit about", Shhpuma, 2019). With the addition of guitarist Sergio Albano, they became Grizzly Imploded ("Anabasi", Sincope, 2013; "Steel from your brow", Metzger Therapie, 2016), becoming still more oppressive and decontrolled.

Maurizio has toured extensively around Italy, Europe, and Russia, performing with musicians from around the world, including: Seijiro Murayama, Tetuzi Akiyama, Valerio Tricoli, Mike Cooper, Chris Cogburn, Pascal Battus, Miguel Angel Garcia, Eugene Chadbourne, Olivier Di Placido, Cris X, Andy Guhl, Mat Pogo, Rhys Chatham, Katsura Yamauchi, Ignaz Schick, Fabrizio Spera, Roberto Fega, Roberto Bellatalla, Alexei Borisov, Olga Nosova, among others.
