Brent Crosson is a cultural anthropologist and Associate Professor at the University of Texas- Austin. He seeks to combine poetry and sound in ethnographic and creative settings. His book Experiments with Power (University of Chicago Press 2020) won the Clifford Geertz Prize from the American Anthropological Association, and his poetry won prizes from the Society for Humanistic Anthropology and the University of Toronto’s New Arts of Persuasion. He plays with the poet Marissa Ayala as Through Lightwells. His work for this event is partly based on interviews with Venezuelan asylum seekers as well as a commissioned piece from writer María Teresa Canelones (Estado Trujillo, Venezuela).
