The 16th annual No Idea Festival brings together musicians and sound artists from around the world to Austin to collaborate for 3 nights and 2 afternoons in the fields of free improvisation, composition, installation, noise, and sonic interventions.

  • // Monolith
Berlin sound artist Werner Dafeldecker presents Monolith - an audio-visual installation created while the artist was on an extensive research trip in the Antarctic Peninsula. Monolith runs for the duration of No Idea 2019 (February 21-24) at Cloud Tree Studios & Gallery; Dafeldecker will host a special presentation at Cloud Tree on Feb. 23 to discuss the challenges and peculiarities of making an artistic work in such an extreme environment.
  • // SOLO(s)

No Idea 2019 presents several solo performances throughout the festival.

From sound poetry to banjo to the reconceptualization of a mixing board, No Idea SOLO(s) surveys the diversity of aesthetic positions and working methods in contemporary, experimental music practice.

  • // Construct | Fragment

Initiated last year via terre, No Idea's special Sunday programming continues -this time inside- with two artists reflecting upon a yet to be determined architecture.

Through the use of cymbals, speakers, and feedback, Mexico City composer Iván Naranjo constructs resonant atmospheres in relation to the selected architectural space.

Italian tape artist Valerio Tricoli, in his inaugural Austin performance, considers the relations intervening between reality, virtuality and memory during the acoustic event in time + space.
